Day 3 got off to a rocky
start. After only 4 hours of sleep it’s not surprising that we slept
through the alarm. Needless to say we were a little late to our breakfast
meeting. Today’s breakfast was sponsored by Bandai. We got to hear about
many of their upcoming products and events including their new Naruto Shonen
Jumps. Exciting news for the series 5 set of Battle Spirits. This will be
the first set to include duel color spirits. James at Bandai once again
talked about ATF in his presentation. Thanks to Bandai for being a great
retail partner and thanks to our players who help us support Bandai.
We then set out to walk
to show floor. The first booth we hit was Out of the Box. These guys have
fast become one of our favorite publishers at ATF thanks to great games like
Cloud 9 and Ninja vs Ninja. It looks like they will be giving us another
successful game this year with Pirate vs Pirate. This time it is a 2-3
player game with pirates searching for treasure and fighting it out on the
high seas.
We talked with the guys
from Dust Games and AEG. You might know them most recently from a little
game we sold last year called the Adventurers. They have some great stuff
coming out. The first is a game some of you might recall I talked about in
last year’s blog called Mad Zeppelin. This one is due on shelves any day.
Another that caught our eye was Dust Tactics. Also, a Thunderstone
expansion is in our future.
We managed to sneak out
for a quick lunch at Ed’s favorite LV eatery, Hofbrauhaus. After some great
schnitzel it was back to work. We stopped by to check out the packaging on
the new HeroClix boosters. As you might guess from the photo, Ed loved the
picture. NECA is releasing two other clix games this year. One based on
Gremlins and the other on the Freddy vs Jason license. Other games that
caught our attention: Conquest of Planet Earth from Flying Frog, Panzer
General Russian Assault from Petroglyph and Defenders of the Realm from
Eagle Games.
Overloaded with
information we snuck out again for dinner. Along with some friends we
headed out to an Italian restaurant I found on the web. It had gotten some
good reviews. I have to say when we pulled into the parking lot I was
thinking the rest of the group might stone me for my bad choice. (Ed
Note: From the outside the restaurant looked like a boarded-up crack house!)
We walked in anyway. The foyer was very dark and when we tried the door it
didn’t open. We were then surprised from behind by a slot opening in the
wall and an accented Italian asking, "Whad'ya want?" After a knuckle wrap on the door
we where then admitted into the dark mob speakeasy called Capo’s. And we
had a blast. The atmosphere was great and the food wasn’t too shabby
either.
It was then back to the
hotel for some more game demos.
